Caribbean Bodies collection series
"work in progress"
This ongoing series of work evokes body forms that integrate the idea of connectivity viewed as part of the Caribbean culture through the creation of bodies of color, diverse bodies, fragmented bodies, contrasted bodies, imagined bodies, fantasy bodies, spiritual bodies, ritual bodies all entwined with the aesthetics of a new digitalized culture in the Caribbean.
One of the main vectors of this digital culture is music and the new media objects. The latter two (music and the new media objects) are used as portals which the rest of the world uses to access and discover the Caribbean. This vision which may be parochial redefines and reduces cultural resonance. This work is a proposition of an alternate vision of the “Caribbean body”: a body that reflects a synthesis between the contemporary connectivity (music and the new media objects) and traditional representations of connectivity evoking the spiritual presence.
